I like TV. Probably more than any human should.

Morning Links: 2/2/12

Welcome to the Morning Links. Each weekday, I’ll provide you with some interesting television-related news items culled from the various TV websites I frequent on a regular basis with a slight bit of commentary attached. Pretty straightforward – no fuss, no muss. Let’s get to it:

*Renewal news is all the rage this week. Yesterday it was HBO and Luck. Today? It’s Showtime and Shameless, House Of Lies, and Californication, as reported by Hitfix’s Alan Sepinwall. Give it up, Showtime. YOU’RE NOT THREE TIMES AS GOOD AS HBO!! Where was I? Ah… renewals. House Of Lies – it keeps Kristen Bell on my TV so I’m cool with it. I’ve heard good things about Shameless but haven’t gotten around to catching up on it, but it’s on the list. And Californication… is a show that airs on television.

*What a wonderful age we live in where online content and promotion can be used to track that the first extended trailer for the second season of Game Of Thrones was viewed 3.5 million times since HBO released it on Sunday night, according to EW’s James Hibberd, which is a record for any HBO content according to the network. Yeah… I think people might be excited for this premiere.

*Again from Hibberd, kind of ironic that just as Kyra Sedgwick’s The Closer ends, Kevin Bacon is in talks to head The Vampire Diaries’ creator Kevin Williamson’s new serial killer pilot for Fox. Did I miss the rule that one member of the Bacon/Sedgwick household must be on television at all times? The show actually sounds like a cool concept – examining the relationship between a serial killer and the FBI agent (Bacon) who caught him. Also the fact that, in the event that Fox picks the pilot up to series, they’ll be ordering a 15-episode season is a nice move towards the shorter season model that works so well in cable these days.

*Eastbound & Down season three trailer via Warming Glow. Kenny Motherf—-n’ Powers, y’all.

*Great feature over at Warming Glow where they’ve assembled the 12 reasons that NBC is a fourth-place network. Great job by the guys over there but I think I speak for everyone when I say, “There are only 12?!”

*Kate Upton eating a cheeseburger thanks to With Leather. It’s for a Hardees/Carl’s Jr. campaign so it is TV-related even if being able to put a Kate Upton tag on the blog is a shameless attempt drive up page views. Plus it’s a hot woman eating a cheeseburger. What, I ask, is better than that?
