Welcome to the Morning Links. Each weekday, I’ll provide you with some interesting television-related news items culled from the various TV websites I frequent on a regular basis with a slight bit of commentary attached. Pretty straightforward – no fuss, no muss. Very light day yesterday but let’s get to it:
*Did NBC’s aggressive marketing campaign for Smash – the one fraught with no small amount of flop sweat – result in a big opening for the show on Monday night? Results came back mixed. While it did attract 11.5 million viewers and garner a 3.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic, it lost a good part of its sizable lead-in from The Voice and saw its ratings drop in its second half-hour. Still… 11 and a half million people is nothing to sneeze at for NBC but next week’s numbers will be telling. I’ll be checking Smash out in the next few days so keep your eyes peeled for my thoughts in the next week or so. (Via EW)
*Louis CK will be returning to Parks And Recreation next Thursday. YESSSSSSS!!! (Via TVLine)
*In intriguing casting news, Tony Shalhoub and Allison Janney will be reuniting after starring together in 1996’s Big Night for Greg Daniels’ new pilot for NBC, Friday Night Dinners. As The AV Club says, Shalhoub and Janney are two of the finest character actors working today so this is very encouraging news for Friday Night Dinners’ prospects.
*Roger Daltrey’s voice will be making a guest appearance on ABC’s fantasy series, Once Upon A Time reportedly as a talking caterpillar in an Alice In Wonderland-based storyline per EW’s James Hibberd. Judging by The Who’s Endless Wire and their abysmal Super Bowl halftime performance in 2010, this will be the third-most embarrassing thing that Daltrey’s done in the last half-decade or so.
*Two And A Half Men fans need to get a life. (Via Warming Glow)
*Jessica Lange will reportedly be returning for the second season of FX’s American Horror Story. Excuse me while I continue not caring. (Via The AV Club)
*There’s a reason that Iran is part of the Axis Of Evil. This time they’re banning Simpsons merchandise from their country. Bastards. (Via Warming Glow)
